Brooms Head fire contained; mopping up to continue today

Firefighters from the NSW Rural Fire Service, NSW Fire Brigades and the National Parks and Wildlife Service have contained a fire burning near Brooms Head Village.

Overnight crews continued backburning operations to the north, west and south of the fire as they worked to establish, strengthen and mop up containment lines.

Throughout today firefighters will continue backburning operations to strengthen and mop up established containment lines to the south and south west of the fire. Crews will also continue to mop up containment lines to the north and west of the fire.

Residents to the north-west and south-west of the fire are advised that they may experience the effects of smoke as backburning operations proceed.

Residents should close doors and windows as well as taking other appropriate precautions. Those with illnesses affected by smoke should take appropriate precautions and visit the NSW Health website .

While no properties are under direct threat, people in the areas of Wooleweyah, Angourie, Sandon, Minnie Water, Wooli, Diggers Camp and Pillar Valley should ensure their properties are prepared. Follow your Bush Fire Survival Plan.

Access to some camping grounds and National Parks in the area may be limited or restricted. For more information on park closure information relating to this fire, visit the NPWS Website.

Motorists on the Pacific Highway are advised that depending on wind conditions smoke may affect the area. Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions.

There are currently no roads closed, however, motorists should drive with caution as firefighters may be working alongside the road.

Fire permits have been suspended in the Clarence Valley District.

A Section 44 bush fire emergency was declared for the area on Wednesday afternoon, meaning more resources are available for the fire fighting effort.
