Government delivers on laptops to Casino High
October 19, 2009
Year 9 students at Casino High School were issued with their very own laptops toward the end of last school term, thanks to the Rudd Government’s $386 million Digital Education Revolution.
Federal Member for Page Janelle Saffin said the laptops would revolutionise the way education and training is delivered. The Year 9 students had their training session for the laptops on the last week of term.
“The Rudd Government has worked hard to deliver on this very important commitment,” Ms Saffin said.
“These laptops will transform the way education and training is delivered – students will be able to use the laptops in each of their classes and take them home to continue their homework and assessments.”
Ms Saffin said the laptops would be rolled out over four years, with Year 9 students the first to receive the laptops.
The National Secondary School Computer Fund is a key component of the Australian Government’s $2.2 billion Digital Education Revolution initiative.
Through the fund the Australian Government is providing grants to secondary schools for laptops, desktop computers and other technologies.
All secondary schools in Australia have now been provided the opportunity to obtain funds to bring them to a 1 to 2 computer to student ratio, including funding to address on-costs associated with deployment of additional computers.
As a result almost 2700 secondary schools across Australia have been approved for funding to purchase almost 290,000 new computers through Rounds One, Two and 2.1.
“Every student in Years 9 to 12 will benefit from the fund over six years,” Ms Saffin said.
“This investment by the Government is a vital step towards creating a worldclass education system for Australia and delivering a Digital Education Revolution.”
