Tucabia man charged over 1987 death
November 5, 2009
Unsolved Homicide Team detectives have charged a second man with murder following investigations into the death of a woman in Sydney’s CBD in 1987.
Just after 4pm yesterday, a 48-year-old Tucabia man presented himself at Grafton Police Station.
He was subsequently charged with murder and robbery x 2. He’s been refused bail to appear at Grafton Local Court later today.
Yesterdays’s arrest relates to the alleged murder of then 66-year-old Po Cin Lim. Detectives will allege that on Monday 5 October, 1987, Ms Lim was standing at the corner of Goulburn and Pitt Streets in Sydney, when a man travelling in a passing car allegedly grabbed her handbag.
Ms Lim was dragged alongside the car for several metres before falling head-first onto the curb and sustaining fatal head injuries. The man fled the scene without stopping to render assistance.
Strike Force Alukea was formed in July 2008 to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death, and comprises detectives from the State Crime Command’s Unsolved Homicide Team.
Yesterday’s development follows the previous arrest of a 45-year-old man in Bundaberg in Queensland on 29 May this year and subsequent extradition to Sydney to face charges of murder, manslaughter, assault with intent to rob, robbery in company, and two counts of illegal use of conveyance.
Investigations are continuing and anyone with information about the fatal incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
