Queensland loves our chefs

The Queensland Food & Wine Guide, considered the bible of Queensland dining, hit the shelves this month. Whilst the focus is the best of the Sunshine State, a few restaurants south of the border received accolades in the prestigious guide.
“The Tugun bypass has cut down on travelling time from Brisbane and foodies are making a break for the border,” said Fiona Donnelly, co-author of the Guide and Food Editor at The Courier Mail.
“The Queensland Food and Wine Guide is always impressed by the quality that’s on offer at our next-door neighbours.”
Two restaurants to receive stars in the Guide are The Restaurant at The Byron at Byron and Satiate in Bangalow. Satiate’s star comes after receiving their first Chefs Hat from the 2010 Sydney Morning Good Food Guide in September.
Shannon Debreceny, Head Chef and owner of Satiate, took time out with friend Gavin Hughes, Head Chef at The Byron at Byron Resort and Spa, to celebrate their wins at The Byron Food & Wine Weekend with Philip Johnson.
Johnson’s Brisbane eatery e’cco was awarded two stars in the Queensland Food & Wine Guide, as well as the Restaurant and Catering ‘Queensland Restaurant of the Year’ and ‘Brisbane Restaurant of the Year’ Awards for the last two years.
“The Northern Rivers is home to authentic food experiences based on fresh local ingredients and a relaxed unpretentious attitude,” said Philip Johnson.
“It doesn’t get much better than that. It’s a joy to visit, eat and share here.”
