First stimulus plan homes in Page now complete
December 9, 2009
Page MP Janelle Saffin has announced that the first new homes in Lismore under the $42 billion Nation Building Economic Stimulus Plan have been completed.
Three townhouses in East Lismore have been completed, providing much-needed affordable housing in this area.
Ms Saffin said the construction of these townhouses, at a total cost of $800,000, has supported local jobs and suppliers.
“The townhouses are part of the Australian Government’s investment of more than $30 million to build 113 new homes in Page as part of the Nation Building Economic Stimulus Plan,” she said.
“This is on top of more than $1 million for repairs and maintenance to 336 social housing units across the electorate.
“Housing and construction is a major employer in the Australian economy and this investment is a boost for the industry locally, supporting tradies and apprenticeships.
“Public housing was neglected for years by the Howard Government and I’m delighted to see this much-needed increase in social housing stock in our area.”
