A truck driver has been taken to hospital and eight cattle killed following a single-vehicle truck rollover on the Bruxner Highway near Casino yesterday.
About 4pm, Sunday, 9 May, a prime mover truck carrying 54 head of cattle was travelling east on the Bruxner Highway at Mallanganee when it attempted to round a corner and overturned.
As a result of the crash, the driver, a 42-year-old Glenn Innes man, sustained a laceration to his head and was taken by ambulance to Casino District Hospital for treatment.
Six of the 54 cattle died at the scene, while police had to put down another two of the animals due to their injuries.
The Bruxner Highway was closed for over five hours while police conducted examinations of the scene and emergency services cleared the road.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are continuing.
