Teenager arrested, charged with possessing prohibited firearm – Tweed Heads West
May 12, 2010
Police on the State’s Far North Coast have arrested and charged a teenager after seizing a pistol from a Tweed Heads West house.
As a result of a public tip-off, police from Tweed/Byron Local Area Command executed a search warrant at a Jacaranda Avenue residence about 5pm yesterday (Tuesday 11 May).
They allegedly seized a pistol at the scene.
A 17-year-old male youth was arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station where he was questioned and charged with unauthorised possession of a firearm.
He was refused bail to appear in Tweeds Heads Children’s Court today.
Tweed/Byron Local Area Command Crime Manager, Detective Inspector Shane Diehm, said the arrest was the result of good teamwork between police and the local community.
“It’s great that members of the public feel comfortable coming forward and sharing information with us,” Det Insp Diehm said.
“It’s even better when that information leads to an arrest and a dangerous weapon being taken off the streets.”
Investigations are ongoing.
