Two men are assisting police with their inquiries following the robbery of a cash-in-transit employee at Lismore this morning.

About 9.30am, the man attended a fast-food restaurant on Ballina Road, Lismore, to make a cash pick-up.

It is alleged two men approached the man and assaulted him before stealing a sum of cash and fleeing the scene on foot.

As a result of the incident the man suffered facial injuries but did not require any medical treatment.

Police were notified about the robbery and commenced a search of the area.

About 9.50am, two 18-year-old men were arrested in Brewster Street, Lismore, and taken to Lismore Police Station where they are currently assisting detectives with their inquiries.

A crime scene has been established at the fast-food restaurant and is in the process of being examined by specialist crime scene officers and local detectives. A sum of cash has also been recovered by police.
