Fatal motor vehicle crash – Byron Bay

A man has died following a single-vehicle crash at Byron Bay this morning.
About 3.15am a Volvo station wagon was travelling south along Bangalow Road, Byron Bay, when it failed to negotiate a left-hand turn, mounted a curb and struck a tree.
As a result the rear seat passenger, a 20-year-old local man, was ejected and died at the scene.
The driver, a 26-year-old man, and his 24-year-old male front seat passenger, both locals, were taken to Tweed Heads Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A crime scene was established and inquiries into the cause of the crash will be carried out by officers from the Ballina Crash Investigation Unit.
