Body found in Tweed River believed to be that of missing man

A body located this morning in the Tweed River at Banora Point is believed to be a man who has been missing since Thursday of last week.
Shortly before 7am the body was found about 50 metres from the shore off a jetty at Barellan Drive, Banora Point.
The body has since been recovered and is believed to be a 35-year-old man who went missing after he and his five-year-old son went boating on the Tweed River at Chinderah Bay.
At about 3pm on Thursday afternoon, the child was discovered and pulled from the water, after which police located the car and boat trailer belonging to his father at a boat ramp in the area.
An extensive search was conducted for the man that involved local police, police divers and water police as well as resources from local surf life saving clubs, the Volunteer Rescue Association and the SES.
The man’s body is yet to be formally identified.
