Police appeal for witnesses to fatal crash – Casino

December 15, 2010

Police are appealing for witnesses after a teenage boy was killed in a crash at Casino on the Far North Coast yesterday morning.

About 11:30am a white Holden utility was travelling south on Nortons Gap Road and negotiating a sweeping left-hand bend when it collided with a silver Toyota Corolla travelling in the opposite direction.

As a result of the crash the Holden utility smashed through a fence and came to rest in a paddock. A 14-year-old boy who was a passenger in the utility died at the scene.

The 36-year-old male driver of the utility and 30-year-old female driver of the Toyota were trapped inside their vehicles for a short time before being freed by the Volunteer Rescue Association.

Both drivers were treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to Lismore Base Hospital where they remain in stable conditions receiving treatment to minor injuries.

Officers from the Ballina Crash Investigation Unit attended the scene and conducted examinations of the crash site.

Police would like to speak to the elderly female driver of a car which has only been described as being white in colour.

Investigators believe the woman may have witnessed the incident or have vital information about the moments leading up to the crash.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are continuing and police will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner.

Anyone with information that could assist police is urged to contact Ballina Crash Investigation Unit via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
