Police from the Richmond Local Area Command have issued a warning to the community following an incident involving an 8-year-old girl in Nimbin yesterday.

About 7.45pm a young girl was outside a premise in Thorburn Street when a man in a white van stopped and asked her to get in.

The man allegedly offered the girl a lollipop in an attempt to coax her into the vehicle.

The girl declined and walked home where she reported the matter to her mother. In turn, the girl’s mother reported the matter to police and an investigation commenced.

The man has been described to police as being of Caucasian appearance, aged between 40-50 with a pale complexion and very short dark, hair possibly with hair gel.

At the time of the incident he was wearing a black T-shirt with ‘Billabong’ written across the front in green, blue shorts and thongs.

He was also wearing a gold watch and silver necklace with a stone.

The van is described as a white, older model, square shape with two outward opening rear doors.

Each door has a window and the van also had side windows covered with coloured curtains.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
