There was no Brenton Cochrane this time, but Lennox Head still had enough firepower to beat Lismore 26-22 on Saturday at Lennox Head to maintain the lead in Far North Coast rugby union.

Cochrane, one of the quickest backs in Retravision Northern League, took advantage of his club Lower Clarence’s bye last weekend to turn out for Lennox Head in the rugby match against Grafton.

He scored three tries to steer Lennox to a win, but his appearance earned the ire of Lower Clarence officials, who say Cochrane has signed a contract to not play any other sport during the league season.

They said they were considering docking him some of his match payments.

Lennox Head put all that drama behind them on Saturday against Lismore, scoring four tries to one.

The boot of James Wood kept Lismore in the match. He kicked five penalties and a conversion.

The win sees Lennox still in front on 48 points, one ahead of Coolangatta Tweed, who beat a depleted Southern Cross University 51-7.

Other winners on Saturday were Grafton, 24-8 over Yamba, and Ballina, 28-22 over Casino.
