It’s a big weekend on and off the field for Northern Rivers Regional Rugby League (NRRRL), with the naming of the Retravision Northern League Player of the Year one of the highlights.

The announcement will be made at the Italo Australian Club in Lismore on Friday night.

Also being announced is the Northern Rivers Centenary of Rugby League team. You can check out the nominees here.

On the field, the spotlight swings to Grafton, where minor premiers Grafton Ghosts will host Lismore Marist Brothers in the preliminary final on Sunday.

At stake is the right to play Byron Bay Red Devils in the grand final at Byron Bay on September 14.

No doubt the Ghosts will be stung by last weekend’s major semi-final loss to Byron.

Despite the home ground advantage, the Ghosts were well-beaten 20-4.

Brothers will have to overcome the psychological disadvantage of two losses to Ghosts this season.

Ghosts beat the Rams 22-14 at Oakes Oval in June, and 22-16 at Grafton early in August.

Brothers are going into the final on the back of a solid 20-10 win over Mullumbimby in the minor semi-final last Saturday.

Also in action on Sunday are:

  • Under-18s: 11.30am South Tweed v Mullumbimby. The winner will play Tweed Coast in the grand final.
  • Reserve grade: 12.55 Grafton Rhinos v Evans Head. The winner will play Mullumbimby in the grand final.
  • First grade kicks off at 2.50.
