Anthony Walsh goes close at Teahupoo

April 29, 2008

Lennox Head surfer Anthony Walsh fell just short of making the finals and repeating his great performance of last year at the Air Tahiti Nui Von Zipper Trials in Tahiti today.

However, Walsh continued to impress with his gutsy surfing in the barreling waves of Teahupoo.

Walsh was defeated in an incredible quarter-final by fellow Australian Damien Wills.

The Teahupoo left-handers were perfect and up to eight foot.

Walsh placed fifth overall.

Hawaiian hot-shot Jamie O’Brien, 24, won the event and will now face world champion Mick Fanning in the main event.

The 2006 Pipeline Masters Champion defeated Brazilian Bruno Santos in an epic final that saw the natural footer steal victory in the last 40-seconds with a perfect 10-point ride.

I just uploaded some footage onto LazySurfer from Teahupoo that has Walshy pulling into a massive barrel right near the end. It is worthwhile checking out!
