One Jetstar ‘graduate’ met another when former Lismore resident David Mead, now an emerging Jetstar Titans rugby league player, and Catherine Mauboy, sister of singing sensation Jessica and a graduate of the Jetstar flight crew training, met up in Darwin yesterday.
The meeting came on day two of the Jetstar Gold Coast Titans’ Top End trek, after the players’ first port of call was the Royal Darwin Hospital, with Brad Meyers and Mead joining their Cronulla counterparts and spending a few hours completing jigsaws, reading and posing for photographs with some of the hospital’s sick youngsters, their parents and carers.
It was then time for the Titans to visit Jetstar’s Top End flight training school and meet the airline’s newest graduates.
For the past six weeks a group of 29 cabin crew trainees have been preparing for yesterday’s graduation ceremony and from next week, their first flights.
With the graduation coinciding with the Titans’ Darwin visit, Meyers, Mead and assistant coach Trevor Gillmeister attended the final session, congratulating the team before presenting the trainees with their official in-flight manuals.
Among those graduating was Catherine Mauboy, the younger sister of Australian Idol sensation Jessica, and already the younger Mauboy has brought a musical flavour to the Jetstar cabin.
Catherine said: “I love to sing and on one flight from Melbourne, I had all the trainees singing and we had a great time.
“The training has been hard but fantastic and a lot of fun. I am really looking forward to starting my career as a cabin attendant with Jetstar.”
Jetstar Gold Coast Titans coach John Cartwright and football manager Scott Clark also commenced negotiations with Northern Territory Sports Minister Karl Rio Hampton in a bid to ensure the Gold Coast Titans play regular matches in the Northern Territory.
The Titans take on the Sharks on Saturday night in a trial match, with Mead and another Northern Rivers product, Kyogle’s Will Matthews, starting from the bench.
