Newcastle Hunter proved too strong for Far North Coast, winning the round one NSW Country Championship rugby union match 39-9 at Crozier Field, Lismore, on Saturday.

The visitors crossed for six tries, with David Kennedy scoring four. Far North Coast’s points came from the boot of James Wivell, who kicked three penalties.

Far North Coast held Newcastle Hunter to 10-9 by the half-time break, but the floodgates opened in the second half.

In the Under-20s match, Newcastle Hunter won 43-3, with Jacob Miller scoring five tries.

Far North Coast’s next opponents will be New England in the seniors, and Central Coast in the Under-20s. The games will be played at Dubbo on Saturday, March 28.
