Bruce at Dave’s Bait Shop in Ballina says there are still a few whiting hanging in North Creek and the lower reaches of the Richmond.

Flatties have been quite OK in the same haunts, up to about Wardell.

Blackfish have turned up early at the Porpoise Wall and around Prospect Bridge.

Small school jew in the river but most are undersized.

A few muddies in Emigrant Creek and the top end of North Creek.

Tailor around the walls and beaches have been a mainstay of the fishing although there have also been some whiting, flathead and dart on the beaches as well.

Some mackerel have shown up at Riordans Reef, try the 32s and 48s for mixed reef fish.

Off Evans Head there have been a few Spanish mackerel down around Kahors and the South Reef, with just the odd one off the headland at Fortyfoot on the right day.

Won’t be many of them for a while because the swell has picked up a foot or two already and is tipped to be 5m by Tuesday!

Beaches have had plenty of small school jew, mostly undersized, along with some decent tailor to about 3.5kg but they’re only very patchy. Bream and whiting in the river.
