Colourful ex-St Kilda, Hawthorn and Sydney AFL legend Peter ‘Spider’ Everitt will be making a guest appearance at Fripp Oval in Ballina on Wednesday, April 22, to coincide with the start of the junior Northern Rivers season.

The popularity of the sport has grown in the region this year with participation numbers up throughout the junior leagues.

The newly formed Friday night competition for the Under-8s is up from seven teams last season to 18, and an Under-16 competition will take place in the area for the first time in six years.

Everitt, a three-time All-Australian ruckman, finished his career at Sydney at the end of the 2008 season after playing 291 games and winning a best and fairest at both St Kilda and Hawthorn.

‘Spider’ will be holding a free skills session for all juniors in the area at Fripp Oval, Ballina, at 4.30pm, followed by a community forum at 5.30pm and a memorabilia auction at 6.30pm.
