Grafton Ghosts get a boost in Retravision Northern League

Retravision Northern League competition leaders Grafton Ghosts may have lost prop Nat Sewell to a season-ending leg injury, but that has been offset by the signing of former club junior Leighton Ireland.

Sewell received the injury late in last Sunday’s win over Ballina Seagulls in the Northern Rivers Regional Rugby League competition match at Kingsford Smith Park, Ballina.

But the club announced Ireland’s signing this week, and what a pick-up he is for the club.

Ireland, who began junior league in Grafton, is a former Queensland rugby union Under-16 and Country Under-21 representative.

The big prop-forward switched back to league and played with Burleigh Bears in first grade.

Ireland, however, may not get a start in tomorrow’s match against Kyogle Turkeys, which is the match of the round in the Retravision League this weekend.

The Turkeys share equal third spot on the ladder and will go into the match refreshed after last week’s bye.
