May 6, 2009
The Far North Coast Branch has won Country Event of the Year at the prestigious Surf Life Saving NSW 2009 Awards of Excellence for its Junior Development Program.
Surf Life Saving NSW said the Junior Development Program targets Under-13 and 14 categories and has proven to be an effective way to motivate and engage juniors and build a passion for surf lifesaving.
The three-day program was conducted in January 2009 on the Gold Coast and engaged the 40 young participants in a range of team challenge activities and motivational sessions held with elite athletes and coaches, including ironwoman Alyce Bennett.
The awards were presented by the Minister for Sport and Recreation, Kevin Greene, who thanked the volunteer surf lifesavers on behalf of the people of NSW and said the quality of the nominees for all the awards showed the great depth of commitment and experience within Surf Life Saving.
