Tony Zann’s weekend fishing report

May 15, 2009

Bruce at Dave’s Bait Shop in Ballina says there have been good bream in the lower reaches, with some excellent flathead along the walls for this time of year.

Blackfish around but getting weed remains a real problem. Crabs are moving further up-river.

Plenty of tailor around the walls and beaches with plenty of quality fish to 3kg and a few choppers also turning up.

Good snapper and pearl perch on the 38-fathom reefs with a few squire turning up on the closer reefs.

Beautiful morning at Evans Head with about 1m of swell and a few knots of offshore wind.

A few fair bream and some chopper tailor working up Airforce Beach to Broadwater, some better tailor and bream around the rocks and the odd school jew as well.

Plenty of boats offshore today and a few trag, snapper and the odd mackerel coming in so far.

River fairly clear but some bream and the odd quite large whiting.
