Bruce at Dave’s Bait Shop in Ballina says bream have been very good along the town reach on the rising tide, with bag limits achieved at times.

Blackfish, flathead and the odd whiting also appearing in the river in reasonable numbers.

Some tailor away from the river mouth, mainly around Lennox Head and Patchs Beach.

Snapper have been plentiful on the close reefs with 10.9kg the best he’s heard of and quite a few fish around 10kg.

At Evans Head the beaches have been turning up some quality bream and there are plenty of good holes and gutters to choose from.

There are also a few nice ones around the headlands, along with the occasional hit of school jew but not much in the way of tailor, even though the water has cleared reasonably well.

The snapper have come on pretty well in close, which is good considering the strong offshore winds forecast this weekend will make the wider grounds a washing machine. Also a few cobia and the odd hit of trag.

Bream, mostly fairly small, and some rather large flathead in the Evans River. Also the odd whiting.
