Lismore through to FNC rugby union grand final

Lismore advanced to the Far North Coast rugby union grand final with a 13-8 win over minor premiers Ballina at Quays Reserve, Ballina, on Saturday.

In extremely windy conditions, Lismore came from 8-6 down at half-time to snatch the win with a converted second-half try to Greg Hughes.

Ballina now face defending premiers Lennox Head in the preliminary final at Wollongbar next Saturday.

MAJOR SEMI-FINALS
29th August 2009

First Grade

LISMORE 13 (Greg Hughes try, Ben Felicioni conversion, 2 penalty goals) d BALLINA 8 (Rick Randall try, Adam Fisher penalty goal). Half Time: Ballina 8 – Lismore 6

Reserve Grade

BALLINA 22 (Liam Preston, Trent Short, Andrew Gordon tries, Luke Watling 2 conversions, Chris Lynch penalty goal) d LISMORE 7 (Scott Wisemantel try, Nat Heath conversion). Half time: Ballina 3 – Lismore 0.

Under 19

WOLLONGBAR ALSTONVILLE 14 (Kahliff Glass, Stuart Highlands tries, Kahliff Glass 2 conversions) d LISMORE 7 (Chris Clark try, Sam Flynn conversion). Half time: Wollongbar Alstonville 14 – Lismore 0.

Third Grade

BALLINA 12 (Ben Leon, John Schmetzer tries, Mark Williams conversion) d LISMORE 3 (Dion Crethar penalty goal). Half time: Ballina 7 – Lismore 0.

Village Competition
 
BANGALOW 28 (Kerry Jennings, Neil Moran, Dick Collin, Nick Hornery tries, Kerry Jennings 4 conversions) d YAMBA 7 (Cohen Rheinberger try, Kris Thomsen conversion). Half time: Yamba 0 – Bangalow 0

Preliminary Finals next Saturday 5th September at Lyle Park Wollongbar

11:00am – 3rd Grade: Lismore v Southern Cross University

12:30pm – Under 19s: Lismore v Grafton

2:00pm – 2nd Grade: Lennox Head v Lismore

3:30pm – 1st Grade: Ballina v Lennox Head
