Nick Colby wins at Surfing Far North Coast regionals
June 16, 2008
Byron Bay Boardriders hosted the third round of Surfing Far North Coast regional titles on Saturday in excellent waves at Broken Head.
The day started off in clean, small waves but with the increasing swell during the day, it came down to a spectacular final taken out by Byron Bay’s Nick Colby, pictured, ahead of Stephen Walsh of Lennox-Ballina (Le-Ba) Boardriders in perfect six foot waves.
Past junior world champion Garret Parkes took out the Under-18 men, qualifying for the State titles, after missing the first round due to overseas commitments.
The Under-14 boys was taken out by birthday boy Tommy Boucaut ahead of Sol Bailey, both from Byron Bay.
James Young from Angourie finished fourth which was enough for him to be the only junior surfer from the Yamba region to qualify for the State team.
The Under-16 girls was taken out by Codie Klein ahead of Garret’s sister Lana Parkes. Both have qualified for the State titles.
Surfing Far North Coast ran the regional series and have put together a strong team to represent the region at the State titles.
These competitions are seen as stepping stones for professional couriers in surfing and have helped local juniors to go on and compete on the world tour such as Danny Wills and Kieren Perrow.
