NSW Fishing Monthly editor Tony Zann’s weekend report
July 24, 2010
Andrew at Dave’s Bait Shop in Ballina says that before the wind got up mid-week there were some nice snapper and pearl perch in close and the longliners were reporting some yellowfin well out wide.
Tailor, a few bream and flathead from the beaches.
School jew and better from the Ballina breakwalls along with tailor, blackfish and bream.
Lots of little bream in the river with some quality fish, especially at night. Some blackfish and flathead along with school jew up at Wardell but most are pretty small.
Not much up the beach at Evans Head earlier in the week despite some great-looking water, just a few small flathead and the odd lonely bream.
Things might get better over the weekend when the wind backs off and the high tides coincide with sunset and sunrise.
Some school jew and tailor around the headlands. Where have all the snowy bream gone?
Nice snapper and pearl perch in relatively close but once you get out past about 60m, it’s all leatherjackets, according to Mick McGillivray of Evans Head Deep Sea Charters.
The river has some bream, blackfish along the walls when the seas are up, and a few flathead.
