Gromfest hits the waves this weekend
July 9, 2008
The hottest young surfers from across the globe will compete in the Rusty Gromfest at Lennox Head this weekend, July 11 – 15.
Contest director Max Perrot is looking forward to what is sure to be another amazing event.
“Surfers from Australia, England, Peru, New Zealand, Tahiti, Chile, South Africa and Bali will make this Gromfest the most competitive in the event’s 13-year history,” Perrot said.
With an honour roll that reads more like the who’s who of pro surfing, including current world champions Mick Fanning and Stephanie Gilmore, the Rusty Gromfest will once again push the boundaries of these junior surfers and pave the way for possible future world champions.
Recently crowned world U/16 junior champion Tamaroa McComb (Tahiti) and Tyler Wright (NSW), the U/18 girls runner-up at the world titles, are two of the top surfers competing at this year’s event.
Using a mobile approach to the competition’s location, the Rusty Gromfest will take advantage of the abundance of premier beaches that the Far North Coast of NSW has to offer.
“The highly experienced judges will be looking at rewarding cutting edge surfing with big points by using the same scoring criteria as they do on the world professional tour,” Perrot said.
The event is set to go from Friday, July 11, to Monday, July 14, with July 15 as a back-up day.
