The Ballina Shire Council and North Coast TAFE’s Wollongbar Campus have entered into an
agreement that will provide the community with the use of the sports field located within the
grounds of Wollongbar TAFE located on Sneaths Road, Wollongbar.

It is anticipated that the Wollongbar Rugby Union Club will use the field for training and games in
winter. The field will have lighting that will be installed over the coming months as well as toilets
and change facilities.

The sports field has been leased by Council for a 5 year period with an option to extend the lease
of the field for a further five years if necessary. The use of the sports field is not a permanent
arrangement rather a short term means of meeting the growing needs of the Wollongbar Rugby
Union club and any other sporting use that is suited to the facility.

Ballina Mayor Cr Phil Silver says that the agreement will provide significant benefits to the
community as it will provide a much needed sports field until a permanent site for new sporting
fields on the Alstonville Wollongbar plateau can be found.

Wollongbar TAFE Campus Manager Peter Mehan said that the agreement is a practical
demonstration of TAFE’s desire to contribute to the social, cultural and economic development of
the community.
