Rovers and Lennox Head have emerged as early contenders for the Minor Premiership in the FFNC Premier League Soccer Championship. The packed mid season draw has sorted out the tight pack, with both teams opening a gap on the rest of the chasers. Ballina is the best of the rest, but with a five point gap to close on Lennox Head, and a 7 points adrift of leaders Richmond Rovers, they are merely outsiders for the title.

The dark horses at this stage of the race are Italo Stars, who have entered the top five for the first time after there copping their negative points penalty. They have won more games than all but the top two, and with plenty of games left in the season, could look to create a stir come September.

This weekends round looks easy to tip on first glance, but is full of treacherous fixtures for the top five. Rovers, Byron Bay and Ballina are all away to the lower ranked teams, but the home ground advantage always adds a little bit of enthusiasm this time of year. Bangalow, Pottsville and Goonellabah are all balancing between the relegation zone and the top five, meaning every game is a must win.

The pick of the round will be Lennox Head at home to Italo Stars, with both teams in winning form. Italo Stars comfortably beat Workers 3-1 last weekend, while the Sharks demolished Workers 6-1 at the Redmens home ground. The game promises to be an exciting encounter, kicking off from 3pm Saturday.

More catch up games are scheduled for mid week and Sundays, so check the Football Far North Coast Website for the latest details
