Bangalow’s annual Fatherhood Festival has lured best-selling author and  family psychologist Steve Biddulph to the district to give two regional talks

Biddulph and his partner Shaaron are the successful authors of five books, including ‘Raising Boys’, ‘The Secret of Happy Children’, ‘Raising Babies’ and ‘Manhood’.

His public talks are known worldwide as highly entertaining, practical and emotionally powerful.

“While researching Raising Boys’ third edition, I discovered that fathering time has tripled since the first edition — just 10 years ago,” Biddulph says.

“Oddly, and sadly, kids are getting less mothering these days.

“The pressure and confusion about what is most worthwhile — money, or time for family — is now impacting on motherhood as it once did on fatherhood.

“Now I am getting old, I enjoy trying to see the larger and larger picture and ask the big questions.

“I think we are living in a time of love shortage.

“We were so beguiled by the materialist orgy of consuming in the years since World War II that we forgot about family and community and closeness.

“Relationships are everything, and all our books are just saying love your children, and here’s how it’s done.”
