The Casino Beef Week committee is looking to rugby league legend John Raper to help re-establish its annual festival.

“Recently selected in the Australian league Team of the Century, and soon to be inducted into the Rugby League Hall of Fame, Raper, will be participating at the Country Energy Casino Beef Week

Festival 2008, which commences on May 27 and and continues through until June 3,” Casino Beef Week 2008 administrator and co-ordinator Alex Lubanski said.

“Johnny Raper will be involved in the celebration, as part of the promotional campaign to re-establish the Casino Beef Week Festival 2008 as a major regional community event.

“Johnny will participate in the festival’s Street Parade on Saturday May 31 and will conduct a Basic Rugby League Clinic for the junior rugby league fraternity in the region on Sunday morning, June 1.

“Assisting Johnny with the clinic will be Kangaroo representative, John Mayes.

“This clinic is a great opportunity for local young people to gain some skills from legends of the game.”

Those interested in attending the Basic Rugby League Clinic are required to be at Queen Elizabeth Park, Hartley Street, South Casino, at 9.30am.

Meanwhile, two-time Golden Guitar award winners The McClymonts will kick start the Country Energy 2008 Casino Beef Week festival when they perform on the opening night.

The McClymonts show will follow a dinner to mark the official opening on Thursday May 29 at the Casino RSM Club.

Casino Beef Week president Col Sullivan said the Beef Week board and committee were working hard to make this year’s festival a great success.

“Securing high-profile artists such as the McClymonts will certainly add to the appeal of the Country Energy 2008 Casino Beef Week Festival ,” he said.
