Do you like walking, want to keep or become fit while learning more about your local community and environment?
Then why not become a National Heart Foundation Walk Organiser and lead a group to good health in your local area?
The ‘National Heart Foundation Walking Program’ is a free walking program that aims to encourage people to become more active through moderate walking.
It provides everyone with an opportunity to be physically active without it being expensive, time-consuming or difficult.
Walking for health is for everyone, young or mature, large or slim and all abilities. If you recognise yourself in any of the above and would love to have a go at organising a regular walking group, the North Coast Area Health Service love to here from you.
“Your local area may need a ‘stroller or young parents’ group, ‘lunchtime or early morning workers’ group, ‘older person’s’ group or just an ‘everybody’s’ group. The choice is yours,” a spokesman said.
“As a volunteer Walk Organiser you will be offered training covering all aspects of organising and leading a group walk.
“You will be covered by the National Heart Foundation Walking Program insurance for Walk Organisers and will be provided with all the resources necessary for establishing and maintaining your very own walking group.
“The North Coast Area Health Promotion Service supports the National Heart Foundation Walking Program and will provide local training and ongoing support to interested Walk Organisers.
“Regular moderate physical activity has many benefits including lowering blood pressure and cholesterol.
“It helps maintain a healthy weight, aids in controlling diabetes and many other health conditions and is a great way for people to meet new friends and explore their neighbourhood.”
