Detectives are appealing for information from the public after a fire destroyed a Grafton swimming pool’s complex, forcing its closure.

Emergency services were called to the complex on Oliver Street shortly before 11.30pm on Saturday (13 December) after reports of a fire.

Upon arrival emergency services discovered the building engulfed in flames. It took firefighters several hours to extinguish the blaze and dampen hot-spots.

The 52-year-old complex housed the pool’s administration offices, as well as change rooms, toilets, the canteen and swimming club.

It was destroyed in the blaze, forcing the closure of the pools. The cost of the damage has not yet been determined.

On Saturday night a crime scene was established and the site examined throughout yesterday by forensics officers.

At this stage the cause of the blaze has not yet been established, but it is being treated as suspicious.

Detectives from Grafton are continuing their inquiries into the cause of the fire and information is sought from the community.

Any members of the public in the vicinity of the pool on Saturday night, or with information about the fire, are urged to contact Grafton Police Station on (02) 6642 0222 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
