The name has been released of a French National who died after a fall at a lookout at Byron Bay yesterday.

He was 22-year-old Yohan Maunier.

Mr Maunier was with friends at The Pass, at the southern end of Byron Bay’s Main Beach, when they noticed he was missing shortly before 6am.

He was located lying on a rock ledge about 20 metres below the lookout and was suffering severe head injuries and multiple fractures.

Emergency services attended and the critically injured man was treated at the scene by paramedics, prior to being airlifted to Gold Coast Hospital by Westpac Helicopter.

He died five hours later, at 11am.

A post mortem examination is expected to be carried out this afternoon, with information to be included in a report for the Queensland Coroner.

At this stage, his death is not being treated as suspicious.

Police understand arrangements are being made by the French Consulate for the body to be flown to France next week.
