Police are appealing for witnesses after a motorcycle crashed following a short pursuit in Tweed Heads overnight.
About 12.15am Tweed Heads police in an unmarked vehicle attempted to stop a Suzuki GSX1400 motorcycle after it was allegedly detected speeding on Sexton Hill, Tweed Heads.
It will be alleged it failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated, coming to an end when the motorcycle failed to negotiate a moderate right-hand bend on Tweed Coast Road, Chinderah.
Police rendered first aid until the arrival of paramedics, with the rider being taken to Tweed Heads Hospital with fractured ribs, a punctured lung and lacerations.
The 40-year-old man, from Kingscliff, remains in hospital in a stable condition.
Police from Tweed/Byron Local Area Command attended the scene, with ongoing inquiries being carried out by officers from the Ballina Crash Investigation Unit.
