Is another Byron Bay possible?

That’s the question that’s up for discussion at a forum in Byron Bay on Friday, June 13, to be compered by ABC 7.30 Report host Kerry O’Brien.

The Byron Social Forum Opening Event ‘Is Another Byron Possible?’ kicks off at with brief entertainment and a Welcome to Country, followed by special guest and compere for the evening, O’Brien, who will preside over the opening.

He will present a panel of six local speakers who will briefly address one topic each on the theme ‘Is Another Byron Possible?’ in order to trigger audience discussion and debate about our vision of a sustainable Byron Shire.

O’Brien is  one of the most prominent and respected names in Australian journalism.

He has more than 40 years experience in news and current affairs, having worked as a general reporter, feature writer, political and foreign correspondent, interviewer and compere.

He has won a multitude of accolades and awards.

The Social Forum will continue on the Saturday with a program from 10am-4pm devoted to a series of workshops.

Any  participant can present a workshop on an issue of interest.

On the Sunday a barbecue lunch will be held, followed by a closing session where future actions resulting from the forum will be identified.

The closing session will also be a celebration of the weekend forum.

Orgainsers said the Social Forum’s aim was to allow for democratic expression in an  atmosphere of optimism, positivity, visionary thinking  and collaboration.

“Rather than be ‘part of the problem’, you can be ‘part of the solution’,” they said.
