Kimberley Kampers of Ballina has taken out two awards at this year’s prestigious New South Wales Telstra Business Awards.
The company was announced as the NSW winner of the Panasonic Australia Medium Business Award and the AMP Innovation Award.
Telstra Business Group Managing Director and Telstra Business Awards Ambassador, Deena Shiff, said the judges were impressed by the market leadership the company had demonstrated.
“The Telstra Business Awards applaud and inspire the strength and spirit of Australia’s entrepreneurs, and Kimberley Kampers well deserves its place among the select group of businesses which have been recognised as award winners over the past 17 years,” Ms Shiff said.
“Kimberley Kampers is a successful regional employee which has demonstrated that manufacturing can succeed in Australia. The company has an innovative product range, is capable of expansion and has already developed a successful export market.
“It also embraces new technologies in order to set itself apart from its peers and deliver greater market responsiveness.
“Using customer feedback on purchases, internet marketing on changing needs and dealer feedback on special requests, Kimberley Kampers develops new designs tailored to changing market needs.”
Using lean manufacturing processes which enables them to configure at the last point of assembly using standard options, eliminating the need for custom-build orders, has been a successful strategy for the company, which sells through distributors Australia-wide and also exports to the USA.
Kimberley Kampers designs, manufacturers, markets and distributes camper trailers, off-road caravans, modified, long wheelbase vehicles and roof top tents, that are specifically tailored towards the growing baby boomers market.
Bruce Loxton, Managing Director of Kimberley Kampers, said the company was surprised with how well the innovative product was received when it was first introduced onto the market.
“We thought we would sell about 40-50 of our new off-road caravans in a year, instead we received 70 orders in the first 60 days, and were inundated with inquiries,” Mr Loxton said.
“Going forward, our goal is to help more people travel and discover their country. We see ourselves becoming the largest dedicated off-road recreational accommodation brand in the world.”
Kimberley Kampers will now be judged against the category winners from other States in the lead-up to the national Telstra Business Award to be announced in Sydney on August 20. There is over $400,000 in cash and prizes to be won.
