Tweed-Byron Local Area Command Police have been advised that a boy – who was taken unconscious from a high school at Mullumbimby yesterday – has died.
Police and emergency services were called to the school about 11.15am after reports that a Year 9 student was found unconscious in the playground following an incident that occurred in the schoolyard.
The 15-year-old boy was taken to Tweed Heads Hospital in a critical condition and then transported to the Gold Coast Hospital. He died at 11.15am today.
A crime scene was established at the scene and scene of crime officers attended.
Detectives from Tweed Byron Local Area Command, the school response unit and the Queensland Police with the assistance of the forensic services group, are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. They are preparing a brief for the information of the Coroner.
A large number of witnesses have been identified and are in the process of providing statements.
A post mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
