Police are appealing for public assistance to identify a man who might be able to assist with inquiries after the suspicious death of a woman in the state’s north overnight.

About 12.30am today, police and ambulance were called to an Albert St, Casino, address following reports of a woman who was deceased.

Inside, emergency services personnel found the body of a 36-year-old woman suffering from a number of stab wounds.

A post-mortem examination will be conducted in the coming days to officially determine how the woman died.

A crime scene was established, with analysis by specialist forensic personnel conducted.

The woman’s death is being treated as suspicious.

Detectives from Richmond Local Area Command believe a man, seen in the area this morning, might be able to assist with inquiries.

He is described as being Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander in appearance, 21-years-old, 165cm tall, thin build with short dark hair. When he was last seen he was wearing black tracksuit pants, white runners and a dark coloured T-shirt.

The man is believed to be armed with a knife and was last seen in a paddock in Hilliards Road, via Kyogle.

Residents are warned not to approach the man and to contact their nearest police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 immediately.

Motorists in the area are also urged not to pick up hitch-hikers and to report them to police as soon as possible.
