A man has been charged with murder following the stabbing death of his aunty in Casino over the weekend.

Emergency services personnel found the body of the 36-year-old woman inside a residence on Albert Street, Casino, about 12.30am yesterday (Saturday 5 September).

A crime scene was established at the home and forensic specialists worked throughout yesterday collecting evidence for further examination.

Detectives from Richmond Local Area Command interviewed a number of witnesses and conducted inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.

As part of the investigation, police also carried out an extensive land and air search of the area yesterday.

About 8.45am today a tip-off from a member of the public led to local uniformed police, with the assistance of the Dog Unit, arresting a 20-year-old man at an unoccupied home in Kyogle.

The man was taken to Casino Hospital under police guard where he was treated for a minor dog bite sustained during the arrest.

He was then conveyed to Casino Police Station where he was questioned by detectives, before being charged with murder.

The Casino man was refused bail to appear in Lismore Local Court tomorrow (Monday 7 September).
