Divers searching for a man missing in the Clarence River at Grafton since the weekend have located his body.

Mr Lovell Holloway was 76 years old and a resident of Grafton.

About 8am on Sunday (7 September) a witness saw Mr Holloway sitting in his 12ft aluminium fishing boat about 1km from the Corcoran Park boat ramp on Villiers Street.

About 10.45am his boat was seen floating in the river but he could not be found during a search conducted by local police and State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers.

During a canvass of the area police located Mr Holloway’s car still parked at the boat ramp, and his belongings still in the boat.

After he could not be located, police from the Marine Area Command’s Dive Unit commenced searching the river on Monday and returned to the area yesterday (Tuesday 8 September).

Shortly before 3pm divers located the man’s body in deep water slightly downstream from where his boat had been found.

Police will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner outlining the full circumstances of the death.
