Police are appealing for information following an aggravated robbery in Ballina last night.
About 10:50pm a 30-year-old man was allegedly struck in the head by a 27-year-old man at a licensed premises in Ballina.
As a result, the two men began to brawl inside the licensed premises, whilst two other men believed to be aged in their early to mid-thirties, began to throw tables and chairs at the 30-year-old man, it is alleged.
The 30-year-old man then fled from the licensed premises and was apparently chased by the three other men.
It’s believed the three men then kicked and punched the 30-year-old man in the head before fleeing the scene with the man’s wallet and mobile phone.
The 30-year-old man was transported to Ballina Hospital and was treated for his injuries.
Following police investigations, a 27-year-old man, who was also at Ballina Hospital receiving treatment, was arrested by police.
He has been charged with aggravated robbery, malicious wounding and affray.
He has been refused bail and will appear at Lismore Local Court on June 16, 2008.
Police are appealing for witnesses of the incident to help identify the other two men.
The first man is described as being of Aboriginal appearance, in his early to mid-thirties, about 6 foot tall and of a solid build.
The second man is described as being of Aboriginal appearance, about 35 years old, about 5 foot 10 tall and of a thin build.
