A fire is burning in bushland to the west of Cabarita Beach in the Bogangar and Tanglewood area, in the area of Sliprails Road, Clothiers Creek Road Tanglewood Drive and Wally Bishop Road.

There are several rural properties which may come under threat over the next few hours as the fire continues to burn in a southerly direction under northerly winds.

Firefighters are identifying containment lines and undertaking property protection where necessary.

“Under these conditions fires can be difficult to control and flames may burn from the ground to the tree tops. Embers may be blown ahead of the fire and create spot-fires that can threaten earlier than the predicted main fire front. These spot fires can occur up to 2km ahead of the main fire,” the Rural Fire Service said.

“Properly prepared homes that are actively defended can provide safety during the fire.

“Activate your bushfire survival plan. If you don’t have a bush fire survival plan, ensure you know what you will do if the fire does threaten your property.

“If you plan to leave, make sure the path is clear and that you leave well before the fire threatens.

“If you plan to stay and defend your property from the fire, make sure you and your home are properly prepared.

“If the fire is approaching and you have doubts about your ability to protect your life and home, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.”
