Fresh locally grown food lovingly prepared by Harwood Hotel chef Tony Young and a documentary on the benefits of a farmers market for communities will be the key features at ‘Celebrating Local Food’ at the Harwood Hotel next Monday night.

The event is a follow-on from the public consultation meeting regarding Yamba’s Farmers Market held recently by Live Prawn Productions Inc.

Live Prawn Productions Inc Chairperson Debrah Novak said:  “The night is an opportunity for those who are interested in establishing a farmers market in Yamba and prospective stallholders to come along and meet everyone, enjoy some locally grown cuisine while at the same time have input to the discussion of a farmers market.”

Harwood Hotel was chosen to host the event because chef Tony Young already demonstrates sustainable food practices, with his entire menu being sourced locally.

He even has his own vegie garden and chook pen out the back of the restaurant where he can pick what he needs.

“Fresh food and in particular our local food doesn’t need a lot of work done to it, their flavours speak for themselves” Tony said.

The night is sponsored by Tony Young and Clarence Food – an initiative of Clarence Valley Council.
