Police on the NSW-Queensland border are seeking public assistance after a large quantity of oysters was stolen from a lease at Tweed Heads West.

Some time between 4 and 26 April this year, unknown persons have stolen the shellfish from leases at Terranora Broadwater at Tweed Heads West.

It is believed the oysters, which have a potential retail value of $50,000, were removed over a number of days.

They were probably taken by vessel to the foreshore and loaded onto a truck before being driven from the location.

The large-scale theft was reported to police from Tweed/Byron Local Area Command, and detectives are continuing their inquiries.

They’re now seeking public assistance to identify and locate the offenders.

Anyone who witnessed the theft or any suspicious activity in the vicinity of Terranora Broadwater last month is urged to contact Tweed Heads Police Station via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
