Police are investigating the apparent assault of a man yesterday at Ocean Shores, on the state’s Far North Coast.

Just after 3pm yesterday (Wednesday 9 June), a 52-year-old man entered a hotel in Billinudgel and told the publican he had been assaulted by another man, armed with a baseball bat.

The publican drove the man to his home in Ocean Shores where, upon arrival, the alleged victim suffered a seizure and lost consciousness.

An ambulance was called and the man, suffering a fractured skull, was taken to the Intensive Care Unit of the Tweed Heads Hospital.

He was transferred to Brisbane’s Princess Alexandria Hospital where he remains in an induced coma.

Police from the Tweed/Byron Local Area Command attended an address in Gilba Avenue, Ocean Shores, where they located the man’s car, which had blood smears on it.

They also found a pool of blood on grass nearby.

Officers conducted a search and canvass of the neighbourhood.

Police placed a guard on the premises pending further forensic examination later today.
