A pedestrian has died after being struck by a car at Lennox Head last night.

Shortly before 9.30pm a man was allegedly lying on The Coast Road, Lennox Head, when he was struck by a northbound Toyota Celica.

As a result the pedestrian, a 55-year-old Alstonville man, died at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota, a 66-year-old man, was taken to hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.

A crime scene was established and officers from Ballina Crash Investigation Unit are conducting inquiries into the incident.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
