Northern Rivers Regional Rugby League officials are anticipating a big crowd for Sunday’s Retravision Northern League grand finals at Byron Bay on Sunday.

Clubs from ‘top to bottom’ of the league will feature in the three grand finals:

  • Under-18s: 11am, Tweed Coast v Mullumbimby.
  • Reserve Grade: 12.45, Mullumbimby v Evans Head.
  • First Grade: 2.50pm, Byron Bay V Grafton Ghosts.

Byron Bay will go into the grand final with the benefit of a week’s break after upsetting Ghosts, the minor premiers, in the major semi-final two weeks ago.

That win atoned for an earlier loss to Ghosts at Byron Bay mid-season.

Grafton Ghosts won the right to take on Byron Bay with a 16-10 win over Marist Brothers in the preliminary final at Grafton last Sunday.

It was a hard-fought clash which could have two outcomes for Ghosts on Sunday: They will either be match-hardened, or they may have played their grand final a week too early.

In the other grades, Mullumbimby have shown why they are the champion club this year.

Although their first graders, who were defending premiers, will not be there, the club’s Under-18s and reserves will battle for premiership glory in an indication of the depth in the Giants’ ranks.

The other reserves grand final team, Evans Head, are sure to have plenty of supporters there on Sunday.

The Bombers are pushing for inclusion into first grade next year, and success on Sunday will further strengthen their case.

Meanwhile, Tweed Coast Raiders’ Under-18s will be flying the flag for the Tweed clubs.

Their top-grade team had a solid season, making the semis, and with a crop of good juniors coming through their Under-18 ranks, Tweed Coast will be a major threat next season.
