The summer pattern has arrived early, with today’s northerly winds forecast to remain over the weekend.

This morning there was a swell of about 4 ft on the open beaches, but the wind kicked in early.

It’s likely there will be little in the way of waves over the weekend … but there’s always the footy finals to keep us occupied!

Marine weather:

  • Friday until midnight: Wind: NW 15/20 knots, increasing to NE 20/25 knots, chiefly offshore, late afternoon. Inshore NW 10/15 knots in the south at first. Sea: 1 to 2 metres, reaching 2.5 metres late afternoon. Swell: S/SE 1.5 to 2 metres. Isolated thunderstorms.
  • Saturday: Wind: NW/NE 10/15 knots, increasing to 20/25 knots in the afternoon, reaching 25/30 knots offshore later. Sea: 1 to 1.5 metres, rising to 2 to 3 metres afternoon/evening. Swell: E/SE decreasing to about 1 metre. Isolated thunderstorms.
  • Sunday Outlook: Wind: N/NW 20/30 knots.
  • Monday Outlook: Wind: N/NW 15/25 knots.
