Lismore took over second spot from Wollongbar Alstonville with a 23-10 home win over the Pioneers in Far North Coast rugby union on Saturday.

Going into the match, Wollongbar Alstonville was in second spot on 31 points with a two-point buffer over Lismore.

But the win now sees Lismore second on 33 points, two ahead of Wollongbar Alstonville.

Ballina still leads the competition on 47 points, after overcoming a determined Casino 24-22 at Casino.

The results see Casino still in fourth spot, but only a point ahead of premiers Lennox Head, who had a 35-5 win over Grafton, highighted by a three-try effort from fullback Tony Buchanan.

In the other match, Southern Cross beat Coolangatta Tweed 12-5.
